Meniere’s Disease Can Be Related to Your Neck

Meniere’s disease is made up of a set of symptoms that include vertigo, tinnitus (ringing in the ear), fluctuating hearing loss, and the feeling of fullness in the ear. Meniere’s is one cause of vertigo that has its origins in the inner ear. Men and women are equally affected, and the most common age range to develop symptoms is between 20 and 50.

The goal of the common treatments for Meniere’s disease is to suppress symptoms. Some of the most widely used options include:

  • Recommendations for a low-salt diet in combination with diuretics
  • Medication to combat vertigo
  • Antibiotic injections in the inner ear
  • In more severe cases, surgery

Although the exact cause of Meniere’s disease is not fully understood in the medical world, upper cervical chiropractic care has been helping many Meniere’s sufferers achieve lasting, natural relief.

Upper Cervical Care Explained

Upper cervical chiropractic is unique in that it keeps its focus on the vertebra that’s positioned at the junction between the head and neck. This is because upper cervical chiropractors recognize that a misalignment in this area can have a global impact on the body’s ability to function at capacity. The atlas vertebra surrounds and protects the brainstem, which acts as a relay station for all of the signals traveling between the brain and body. When the atlas misaligns, from injury or wear and tear, it can impede the normal signal transmission. This can lead to loss of balance, vertigo, and tinnitus associated with Meniere’s disease. In fact, many Meniere’s sufferers report having some type of head or neck injury in the weeks, months, or years leading up to the onset of their symptoms.

At Precision Chiropractic West, we take a thorough approach to analyzing the upper cervical spine for even the subtlest misalignments. We then tailor specific adjustments based on the patient’s individual needs. Many of our Meniere’s, vertigo, and tinnitus patients report a decrease in their symptoms after only a few adjustments.
