Residents of West Des Moines, Iowa – Finding Help for Vertigo

Vertigo is known for presenting with a sensation of moving or spinning. It is not connected to fear of heights, and it is not simply the loss of balance that is often seen in older ones called disequilibrium. Vertigo has to do with a malfunction of the balance and spatial orientation of the body.
Humans inherently have a sense of balance that keeps us upright. However, if it becomes disturbed for some reason, a person can easily become disoriented. Usually, this is connected to a problem of the ear.
Understanding How the Ear Functions
The ear consists of:
- The outer ear – The part visibly seen and referred to as the pinna, sound waves travel through the pinna to the ear canal
- The middle ear – Made up of the eardrum, as sound waves hit the eardrum (the tympanic membrane) and the bones surrounding it, vibrations occur
- The inner ear – Made up of the cochlea, semicircular canals that are filled with fluid, receives the vibrations from the eardrum and relays them to the brain via the nerves of the inner ear.
- The ear canals are important when it comes to sending information to the brain about a person’s location and balance. If they become damaged, vertigo can ensue.

A Healthy Spine Aids in Vertigo Relief
It only takes a misalignment of ¼ of a millimeter in either of the top bones of the neck for problems to occur throughout the body. This is one thing that can cause damage to the way the ears function and send information to the brain. The brainstem is in close proximity to the atlas and axis – the top two vertebrae of the neck. If either of these bones moves out of place, it can put the brainstem under stress, leading to misfiring of communication about the location of the body.
Precision Chiropractic West offers patients a safe, natural way to care for these misalignments. Once the bones are back in their original position, the body can begin to repair the damage, and vertigo is often alleviated.
