Pregnant, Headache, Headaches, CopingBeing pregnant is an exciting time! For those who are suffering from headaches, pregnancy can actually provide some relief. This is true in about sixty-six percent of women. The story may be quite different for the remaining thirty-four percent of others, however. They find that their mild to moderate headaches, nausea, and vomiting do require some kind of treatment. Some may turn to medication, but are reluctant to do so in case any harm to the fetus is incurred. Here is a brief list of some things that can be done to try and help relieve headaches while pregnant:

  • Try to manage stressful situations and keep them to a minimum, if possible.
  • Keep well hydrated at all times.
  • Keep a regular schedule for eating and sleeping.
  • Avoid any known triggers for headaches.
  • Try to get some regular, daily exercise.
  • Practice relaxation methods.
  • Use cool compresses on the forehead.
  • Seek out the care of an upper cervical chiropractor.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic and Pregnancy Headaches

Upper cervical chiropractors have had much success in helping women that are pregnant deal with their headaches with non-invasive, side-effect free methods. We focus our attention on the upper two bones of the neck, the top two vertebrae, referred to as the atlas and axis. If a misalignment is present here, we will work to correct these with a gentle procedure that does not involve spinal manipulation. In fact, there is no popping or twisting of the spine, but rather we use the latest technique called atlas orthogonal.

This has provided much relief to many of our patients. Research has proven that mothers not only gain relief from headaches but see improvement in pain in the lower back, have better bowel and bladder function, and their deliveries are easier and faster. It is our hope to help pregnant women enjoy this wonderful time in their life, rather than suffer in pain throughout it. Why not give us a call today?
